postheadericon Whats the best way to get rid of headlice?

weve tried everything on the market and nothing seems to work Answers: Two years ago I had this problem went through everything the chemist and the doctors could give me.

I ended up having to conditioner her hair every night and going through with a nit comb. My daughters hair is down to her waist I was doing this for 2 hours every night. I had to do it for over 3 weeks to kill the nits and the eggs that were in the hair and any nits that were hatching. I then did her hair every other night for another month after that weekly checks. Combing the hair even if you don’t get the nits out breaks the adults legs. The problem with nits is unless everyone tackles it they will keep breeding. I know kids who get there head clear of nits over the summer holidays go back to school and get re-infected with nits.

I tried vinegar it is supposed to get rid of the glue that attach the eggs to the hair.

I got told off the doctor nits are becoming immune to the nit lotions and we are breeding supper nits.

I found once my kids got to high school nits became less of a problem. Younger kids tend to swap hats and put their heads together.

Shave your head. Shave your head. Use a lice shampoo while it is growing back. dog soap go bald and spray some insect repellent on ur head. burn it ghd’s kill the little f u c kers ha ha gasoline works just be careful Cut your hair shorter, and try not to wash your hair. Lice loves clean hair. honestly.. shaving off all of the hair, washing several times in a lice shampoo or something stronger and make sure you defume the apt. or house, destroy the bed sheets and pillow + pillow case. basically your getting rid of everything you once contacted with your head. including brushes, combs and even some towels and start from scratch. good luck Try using hair conditioner, cheap stuff, I have heard it works. Leave it on overnight. For some reason, I believe whatever is in the conditioner suffocates the head lice. Good Luck. Mix white vinegar with mineral oil. Rub it threw their hair then either wrap head in plastic or use a shower cap, leave on for an hour. Wash hair with Dawn to get the oil out then wash with regular shampoo and then put in hair conditioner, comb out nits. Works very good. Use equal amounts of the vinegar and oil. Try Tea Tree Oil, I bought mine at Fred Meyer. It helps the nits slide off easier, and lice hate the oil. To prevent future lice, put a couple of drops into your shampoo and it smells great, and repels lice. You can also try mayonaise. Cover the hair with thick globs of mayo, and put a shower cap on or wrap in plastioc wrap overnight. They will suffocate and die by morning. just keep using shampoo All pharmacies will carry a variety of products to eliminate head lice. The involve shampoo, creams and a fine comb to remove nits.

The key is to be very precise. One single egg left behind can result in reinfectation. Treat all body hair.

You must also wash *all* clothing and bedding, frequently, in hot water. Use clorine bleach when possible.

OK, I had a dog with sarcoptic mange and we used this absolutely vile sulfur-and-lime (not the fruit, the chemical lime) dip. It was harsh–oh, the smell! Horrible! But it worked. You may need a prescription. They probably have a human version of that sulfur-lime dip. That stuff could kill anything–anthrax, bird flu, you name it. They dip that stuff straight outta hell. And get a little lice comb–comb through your hair and dip the comb in turpentine. Or put turpentine on your head. Ugh. Or get a monkey to groom you. According to Ren and Stimpy:

When one monkey’s itchy, another is nice To pick from his back all the vermin and lice And if he gets hungry, he’ll shake on some spice And eat the bug without thinking twice Mmmm-mmm! Deeee-licious!

we had to go to the pediatrician..3 kids…whole school system was polluted with them. he gave us something called Ovide..worked first try. bedding spray, we threw pillows away, and bag up teddy bears, dolls , etc..for two nights with the bedding spray. wash everything in hot water. and don’t forget carpets and couches, etc..it is the biggest pain in the world, but we finally got them all. good luck. doctor says there was a HORRIBLE outbreak this year. walmart was even running out of the medicine. OVIDE is the bomb…quite literally, i guess. we have tryed all sorts but not much joy get rid off the kids ha ha only joking The special fine comb is the best way. But you gotta do everyone in the house and you gotta repeat every three days until there is no more coming out of anybody in the house. And of course you gotta do the bedclothes. Trey to teach everybody not to ‘touch heads’ as the commonest way of lice moving from person to [person is head to head contact! Wash the hair and leave the conditionar in the hair and then go through the hair for about an hour with a fine tooth comb, repeat every night for about 2 weeks or untill the lice are gone and then repeat once or twice a week even if there are no lice. Also try adding a drop of tea tree oil to your normal shampoo!

Good Luck, hope this has helped

We used Full Marks Phenothrin lotion and a good nit comb. Condition the hair and leave it in, then comb through with a nit comb onto kitchen roll. Use tea tree shampoo and conditioner for a while, the little blighters dont like it and its better than all the chemicals you get from the chemist. Another thing would be to inform the school that she goes too, because all it needs is one untreated child and the rest of the class is infected again. i ve used something called nice and clear. As a primary school teacher and the mother of 2 school age children i take great care to ensure that we all comb our hair regularly with the dreaded nit comb as well! (put lots of conditioner on and comb wet) It's an odd when you think of it, but I heard people say you can apply mayonaise to your head and head lice goes away. Or you can shave your head, it's not the best thing to do, so..... You could also research about head lice shampoo. I think there's a special shampoo. Hmmm... Also, keep washing your head many times, I've also heard about that. Don't keep your head stinky or dirty. Here's a website to buy a shampoo for head lice:

http://www.neemco.co.uk/shop/headlice.

I will also agree with other people, I've heard tea tree oil work. And keeping conditioner on for a while is also a good idea. I dunno about the mayo thing though.

I hope this helps! Have a great day!!

if you dont wash all bedding , and brushes and combs in hot water you cant get rid of them..and treat the whole family wheither they have lice or not ..wash all stuffed animals. towels and cloths in hot water. Every other day, wash and lather mild shampoo and leave it for 4 minutes. Insects breathe through their skin, and thats how long it takes to drown them. Rinse, condition the ends, comb with a wide tooth comb then comb through with a nit comb. Do that for 2 weeks to clear the adults and eggs, after that once a week. 'What you need to get is full marks mousse it is expensive but really does work.I used it on my two kids and it worked a charm. Then comb through over the next few days then when you think they have gone start to use tea tree shampoo and conditioner.I use tesco's own tea tree shampoo and conditioner but its up to you.GOOD LUCK Keep combing and use lots of conditioner! you can buy electric combs [they work on a small battery] they zap the lice dead and also clear the eggs. It doesn’t hurt to use them.If you comb through 2 or 3 times a week the head stays clear. Argos or the chemist sells them. The one we have is called a RIO COMB.. insecticide for kids, from the people who brought you head and shoulders. Or you can just shave her head! What you need to do is shave your head bald. Then there won’t be anywhere for them to live. a glass of vodka and a about three table spoons of t.c.p mix together pour all over your hair leave for an hour or so comb it through and wash as normal do this about twice a week for two weeks and you.ll be fine
