The Proper Way To Use The Mayonnaise Lice Cure
One of the most popular methods of curing head lice is with mayonnaise. Many people wouldn’t give this salad dressing a second thought, but in fact mayonnaise has great components like fat and oil that effectively remove head lice. Mayonnaise has a rich and thick texture ideal for suffocating head lice till they can no longer breathe, rendering them dead.
Utmost precautions should be taken into consideration before adopting this method. Tie your hair in a bun and use a disposable shower cap. After wearing disposable gloves, take hold of a disposable container and add two cups of mayonnaise to it. Thicker or longer hair will require more mayonnaise. A saran wrap should be kept ready to put around the infected persons’ head. A fine toothed lice comb should also be at hand. After switching off all fans and shutting your doors and windows to prevent even the slightest breeze from entering in, spread a sheet of newspaper, or a white sheet of paper which would give you better visibility, onto an even surface like a table. These are just the preparations.
Now we start with the actual task. Depending on the density of the infected person’s hair, apply a generous amount of mayonnaise. Don’t get too stingy with the mayonnaise or this method will never work. The mayonnaise should be thick enough to suffocate the lice. Next, wrap your child’s head tightly in the saran wrap. Tight enough to block their air passage so as to properly smother them. Keep their head soaked in mayonnaise for a few hours. Two hours is ideal but a little while longer wouldn’t hurt, just to be on the safe side.
After the specified time, comb out the hair using the lice comb onto the white sheet or newspaper, tapping the comb after each stroke to get rid of the dead lice and nits and excess mayonnaise. Discard the paper. Then shampoo your child’s hair using preferably an anti-lice shampoo and rinse thoroughly under high pressure water making sure to get rid of all traces of mayonnaise. Take a fresh sheet of paper and comb out dead lice and nits for a second time. Using gloves pull out the stubborn ones with your hands. Make sure to be thorough as you don’t want any lice and nits to be left behind. Discard the second paper.
If you are still not fully satisfied, shampoo your child’s hair once more and comb it out for a third time, using a clean lice comb. Yes, this is a time consuming process but in the end it is worth your time and effort as you would not like these parasites spreading to the other members of your family as well. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry.
Lastly, get rid of all the tools you have used during this treatment. From the surgical gloves to the lice comb and the saran wrap to the disposable container, not forgetting the papers and the lice comb.
