The Different Treatments for Head Lice
Head lice are small, wingless parasitic insects found in human scalps. These tiny insects thrive on human hair and feed on scalp blood. The problems of lice are common particularly among children between 3-12 years old. The lice problem is more common among girls with long hair than among boys. Lice are known to cause extreme itching on human scalps and cause tremendous distress. If you are frustrated with head lice problems, don’t worry because there are different treatments for head lice.
You can treat a head lice infestation through different ways to get rid of scratching caused due to lice movements.
Lice combs:
Lice combs are special combs that have fine teeth designed to remove lice and lice eggs (nits) from human hair. Lice combs are one of the best and cost-effective ways to remove lice. You can use these combs to comb your hair, as the fine teeth of the comb remove the lice and nits from your scalp. For the combs to be more effective, it is advisable you use these combs on wet hair. You can use the comb three-to-four times a day for up to two weeks to get rid of the lice completely.
Head lice vinegar:
Head lice vinegar is another effective treatment to get rid of lice problems. Head lice vinegar is a great natural treatment and the best part is that it doesn’t cause any side effects, unlike chemical treatments. Vinegar has a natural acidic property. This acidity of vinegar loosens the firm adhesive grip that lice and nits use to stay attached to human hair. Thus, you can drive away the lice and nits while you wash your hair.
Instructions to use head lice vinegar:
1) Take a bowl of head lice vinegar. Dip a soft brush in the bowl and brush it through your hair.
2) Start brushing from the scalp and move upwards towards the tip of the hair.
3) For maximum effect, split your hair into small portions and brush each portion.
4) When you apply vinegar all over your hair, cover your hair with a thin cloth or a shower cap. Make sure that all your hair is concealed and there is no room for air.
5) Keep the hair covered for 30-60 minutes
6) Rinse your hair with normal shampoo after 60 minutes.
7) Repeat the procedure three-to-four times a month until you completely get rid of head lice and to avoid re-infestation.
Applying onion juice:
Applying onion juice is another effective natural way to treat head lice. Extract onion juice by processing a medium sized onion in a blender. Apply the juice on your head starting from the scalp and work your way to the tip. Wrap your head with towel and allow the hair to soak the juice for two-to-four hours. Rinse your hair with shampoo and comb with a nit comb to drive away all the lice and nits. Repeat the process for three-to-four consecutive days and get a lice free scalp.
Apart from the above-mentioned treatments, there are other natural treatments available for head lice. You can use a combination of head lice treatments to get rid of head lice quickly.
