A topic was posted on the “Mane” forum by rachel060186 for curling hair and it reminded me of my very best (only?) children’s hair care tip and I wanted to share it in a separate thread so parents wouldnt miss it because it is a life saver.

The curling method is:
When your hair is wet put little darling’s hair into lots of little “bee butt” buns.. twist the whole way from roots to tips and coli ends around under the first coil… and secure them with elastics. Each bun I end up with is less than 1 inch in diameter; this is 5-6 on my daughters fine hair.
(it is better if you use thick metal-free elastics and don’t just wrap the whole elastic around the base.. put each wrap of the elastic on a different spot on the bun… this avoids crimping the hair’s ends).

To get rid of lice:
After washing hair (you may want to use the lice killing shampoo, but I don’t think it is necessary.) COAT it in EVOO (probably doesnt need to be EV actually, but I wouldnt use canola or anything like that) as much as you can possibly get to stay in. Put darlin’s hair into lots of buns like in the curling method. Leave it in for *at least * 4 hours… as long as possible. Add more oil occassionally as it soaks in and dries.
Wash the hair as usual …Make sure you wash oil out completely, obviously. Then do a thorough nit-pick under good lighting. As you do each section get it out of your way by putting it back into a “bee butt” bun.

When it dries she will be lice-free AND have the most gorgous shiney curls ever :)
Repeat this in a few days.

The reason this works is that the oil smothers the lice.. it works *better* than the poison shampoos, but you have to leave it on a long time and use enough oil to coat hair fully the whole time or it wont work!
I have used this on 3 other children… cousins.. and it has worked for them all so far. :-)

To prevent lice AND get the shiniest bounciest curls ever :) just do the process without the nit-picking.
If I was a teacher I’d probably do this weekly ;)
