What causes age spots?

When you are exposed more to the sun your skin produces cells called melanocytes. These cells produce a dark brown pigment called melanin, because of which your skin turns darker. When you are overexposed to sunlight, the melanocytes will be produced in a higher extent. This causes in the appearance of brown, black or gray spots on your skin, which are popular as age spots. These age spots appear on every body area exposed to the skin, and they are more on your face as it is more exposed to sun than any other part.

Aloe

Rub fresh aloe vera juice or gel on the age spots and this can easily fade them. Use the aloe vera gel twice a day for one or two months. Juice made from the aloe plant can easily heal the burns. And, it is a natural healing agent.

Home remedy for age spots with Apple cider vinegar

Mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of orange juice. Using a cloth or cotton pad apply the mixture on the age spots.

Bilberry herb home remedy for age spots:

This herb acts as an antioxidant and slows the aging process. Every day take 4-8 oz. of fresh berries, 20-40 mg anthocyanosides or 80-160 mg of bilberry extract.

Buttermilk remedy for age spots

Dab buttermilk on the age spots. Buttermilk has lactic acid and other ingredients that are highly beneficial to the skin and can fight aging. In fact, buttermilk is more commonly used as a skin cleanser and it is also a popular beauty aid.

Castor oil

Apply castor oil on the age spots twice daily, one time in the morning and again in the evening. Rub the castor oil well into the skin. The age spots will disappear within one month.

Chickpeas

Take fresh or canned chickpeas. Mash about 1/3 cupful and then add some water. Apply this paste on the age spots and leave it till it dries. After it dries clean the area with water.

Dandelion

Break open a dandelion stem. Apply the sap on the age spots 2-3 times daily. This is an effective cure for warts also.

Gotu kola

Gotu kola is an ancient Chinese herb. Combine 1/8 teaspoon of powdered Gotu kola herb and one cup of herbal tea. Or, you can also add 1/8 teaspoon of powdered Gotu kola herb to plain hot water and also mix 1/8 teaspoon of ginseng and a pinch of cayenne. Apply this mixture to the age spots for few days. And, you can find better results soon.

Horseradish root

Mix 1 teaspoon grated horseradish root, 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon vinegar and 3 drops rosemary essential oil. Apply the mixture on your age spots with a cotton ball 1 or 2 times daily. By exfoliating the top layer of your skin, it lightens the age spots.

Lemon juice

Apply some fresh lemon juice on the age spots two times everyday. In case you are planning to go outdoors, wait till the juice dries. It increases your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Though it takes few months to get rid of age spots, the acidity in the juice helps in fading the spots completely.
