How to Get Rid of Lice With Mayonnaise
Living in the hair of many different species of mammal and bird is a small parasitic insect known as a louse (singular for lice). This is an especially true for human beings. There are 3 different species of lice that have been known to live on human beings. Lice are comparable to mosquitoes but with one major difference. They live on and feed on only one host because they cannot fly. There are many different methods for removing a head lice infestation.
Infestations of louse are fairly easy to spot. Lice are about the size of a sesame seed and are hard to see, but definitely not impossible. The biggest sign that someone has a lice infestation is the bite marks and large bumps that will be left behind. These will be found on the individual’s scalp and neck. You may also be able to see many the small black droppings left behind by them. These will appear on their hair and also on their pillow case. They will be much easier to spot on people with blond hair or a light colored pillow case.
It is a old wives tail that you can kill all of the lice in an infested person’s hair with substances such as mayonnaise, kerosene, bleach, gasoline, vinegar, Vaseline and a plethora of other household products. Most of these methods have never been shown to work. Using mayonnaise usually just creates a huge mess and has never been shown to kill much of anything.
It is usually suggested to use products specifically made for killing lice. There are a lot of choices such as shampoos, pesticides, and specially made delousing combs. These methods will prove to be the most effective for killing an infestation quickly. There is also no major danger associated with using these products. You are much more likely to harm your child by putting kerosene or bleach in their hair than you are with a product made specifically for killing lice.
