Many parents are now having trouble because their children are infested with head lice. Head lice prevention is required in most schools or day care centers. But, if it is too late and your child is already infested with head lice, there is no need to worry as there are a lot of options available when it comes to getting rid of lice. Most treatments are done in a natural way, so harmful chemicals should not add to your concern.

Killing the Bugs

Getting rid of lice can be done easily and quickly using Vaseline, which is cheap but safe, and can be used along with mayonnaise. Cover the hair of your child with a handful of mayonnaise. Make sure to get it down to the neck and behind the ears. Cover the hair using a plastic shower cap to prevent the mayonnaise from coming out. Leave it there for two or more hours to smother the nits and lice. Remove the shower cap and make sure to throw it away, Be sure to wash your hands, and the hands of your child, well with an ordinary soap. Then, rinse the hair very well. You may need to shampoo the hair 2 or more times to get the mayonnaise off. So, wash it until the mayonnaise is completely removed.

Vaseline can be a good alternative for getting rid of lice, if mayonnaise is not available. This can easily be removed by rubbing baby oil onto the hair of your child. Then, squeeze it out as much as you can. Wash the hair 3 times with hot water and Dawn dish soap. But, make sure to leave it there for a few minutes before each wash to let it work.

If you do not trust Vaseline or mayonnaise for getting rid of lice, you can try using essential oils instead. Add 5 drops each of olive oil, rosemary oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and peppermint oil into a small amount of regular shampoo and put it onto the hair of your child. Leave it on for an hour using a towel or shower cap to prevent dripping. Then, rinse and shampoo the hair afterward.

Loosening the Eggs

After shampooing the hair of your child, rinse the scalp and hair with vinegar. This will loosen the gluey substance that enables the nits to hold onto the hair shafts. Then, rinse this with warm water. Most nits may have been rinsed out after using the vinegar. Now, all you have to do is get rid of the eggs that were left behind. Comb the tangles with an ordinary comb and then use a nits comb to remove the remaining eggs. These are all excellent natural remedies for getting rid of lice.

Natural Spray for Head Lice

When it comes to getting rid of lice, all of the things that the infected person came in contact with should be disinfected to prevent spreading to other family members. Mix one teaspoon each of rosemary oil, olive oil, peppermint oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil with a little water and spray it onto your furniture. All personal things belonging to your child, such as hair accessories, pillowcases, bed sheets towels and combs, should be disinfected as well.
