Easy Head Lice Removal
Is there any way to tell if you child does actually have head lice?
Perhaps you have found something in their hair or have noticed that they are scratching their heads a lot. But how can you be sure that it is head lice and what is the best way to go about head lice removal? Firstly, you need to understand what you are dealing with.
Head Lice are parasites that live on humans.
They survive by feeding on very small amounts of blood which they extract from your scalp. They are usually found, but are not necessarily limited on children that are between the age of three and twelve years old. Although girls are more prone to getting lice, it doesn’t mean that boys are immune to getting them.
Identifying head lice can be a little hard to do. Usually bugs don’t live on human the human scalp, so if you discover an insect crawling on your child’s scalp that is brownish in colour and is about the size of a sesame seed, you have most likely found a louse.
The eggs that they lay are known as nits and are slightly harder to identify. You could be looking at dried up hair spray or dandruff rather than a nit. But, just how exactly can you tell the difference? If you see something that is white on the hair shaft and it comes off easily, it will most probably be dandruff. But if it is yellow or brownish in colour and does not come off easily it is more likely to be a nit. The eggs will look clear or white once they have hatched.
How to get rid of any nits or lice.
Once you have shampooed the hair with a dedicated lice shampoo this can be achieved in one of a few ways.
Separate the hair into sections of about one inch while the hair is still wet and using a lice comb, comb through the hair from the scalp to the end of the hair. Before you move onto each section you should make sure to wipe the comb clean.
Be aware that this can take quite a while to do thoroughly. But combing the hair this way to remove the nits is extremely important.
Some lice shampoos may not always kill the nits and some may be left to hatch. By thoroughly going through the hair you are cutting down the likelihood of another infestation at a later date.
Removing head lice with tweezers is also possible. You would do this in the same way as when you used the comb, by firstly separating the hair into sections.
Disposing of nits and lice once you have removed them? They will no longer be sticky once the nits have been removed from the hair shaft so they won’t stick to a napkin or a paper towel. By this time though, they should either be dead or at least dying.
A great way to dispose of them is to get a piece of wide sticky tape and stick them on it. When the sticky tape is filled up with the lice and nits, roll it up onto itself, seal it in an airtight plastic bag and put it in the bin.
Clearing bedding, carpets and upholstered furniture of lice can be done easily in several ways. Anything that it is possible to be put in a washer should be washed on a very hot program. Other things that it is not possible to put into a washer can be put into a dryer on a high heat for 20 minutes. You should also vacuum carpets and furniture thoroughly, not forgetting your car upholstery too.
